Knowing the elements of effective visual merchandising is a crucial part of any retail or wholesale space. This is what draws in the customer and holds their attention. It shows a shopper that you carry the merchandise they came into your store for, and having it neatly organized and visible on tidy retail shelving units will allow them to purchase it swiftly and efficiently. You will quickly lose a customer that is having a difficult time finding what they came in for. There are a few critical elements to consider when setting up your retail space for optimal visual merchandising.

Remember, Less is More: When setting up your displays, keep them simple. Don’t clutter the area trying to show too much product at once. The merchandise you are trying to sell will overwhelm one another.

If you do plan on fully stocking yours shelves, Opt for Gondolas: Gondola shelving is larger in size and made to display higher quantities. There are also extenders available for gondolas to easily change height.

Maximize Your Merchandising: Make sure your products are easily visible and within reach. Uniquely shaped products require special shelving. Steel front lips allow you to display items on a 45 degree angle to optimize visibility. Open end basket frames and dividers are made to hold oddly shaped merchandise that doesn’t look right on standard shelves. If you are running out of space for your merchandise, upright extenders let you display items above already existing shelves without taking up more floor space.

Be sure to Keep Expensive Merchandise Secure while Still Looking Great: There are many ways to contain your pricier merchandise, but you still want it to look nice and be visible to your customers. Items like metal security cases allow you to display high-end merchandise like electronics and appliances under lock and key while still being able to see the product through glass doors. Mica security cases look sleek and keep expensive products locked away on deep glass shelves with glass doors. They can sit on a standard shelf or a base shelf.
